Oaklands: A Neighbourhood Guide
Oaklands is a vibrant and affordable community in Victoria. There are parks, recreation, nearby amenities (including a newly renovated Mall!) and fantastic schools. The Oaklands neighbourhood is very attractive for families and students as it’s a safe location in close proximity to just about everything.

Oaklands is approximately 430 acres in size, located in the northeast corner of the official City of Victoria’s border. The population was approximately 6,825 in 2011 which is 8.5% of the City’s total population. The neighbourhood is mostly residential, with many single family homes, and apartment/condo buildings along the main strip of Hillside Avenue. This avenue hosts the newly renovated Hillside Mall and many great services and stores.
Parks & Recreation
Oaklands has two community parks (Oaklands and Hillside), two large neighbourhood parks (Oswald and David Spencer), as well as some smaller neighbourhood parks. Clawthorpe Park is a small but well used park located at the very northern edge of the neighbourhood. Mount Stephens Park is a small, naturalized park consisting of rocky outcrops.
Oakland’s Sunset Market runs from June to September on Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at the Oaklands Community Centre. The Market is a free, weekly community celebration featuring over 50 local food growers and producers, artisans, crafters, and body products, live music, a bi-weekly beer garden, and a space for the community to come together and meet their neighbours.
